CBD for Diabetes – Can It Be Helpful?

Diabetes is among the  top diseases that plague humanity nowadays – almost 40% of people in USA get it at some point in their lives.

Type 1 diabetes has pancreas create little to no insulin, resulting in high blood sugar.

Meanwhile type 2 diabetes is characterized by high insulin resistance. The insulin is produced properly here but not absorbed nowhere near enough.

Both types can lead to very harmful and hurtful experiences: pain, frequent urination, thirst, mouth dryness, hunger, weight loss and feeling endlessly tired.

The Effects of CBD

Considering all of the above It’s no wonder diabetes patients are looking for all sorts of treatments, especially new and popular substances like cannabidiol – called CBD for short. The compound comes from the cannabis plant and is one of many substances found in it. CBD, contrary to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) can’t cause people to get „high”. Instead it’s used as chronic pain relief, lowering anxiety, fighting epilepsy etc. CBD is currently under study by FDA and it might take some time until we’re fully clear about it’s final status.

Considering all of the above: can people with type 1 and 2 diabetes get some help from CBD? The studies on benefits are currently still ongoing, and are usually focused on animals, but first experiments on rats are looking quite positive – at least when it comes to decreasing pain and disease prevention.

How Can CBD Help People With Diabetes

While direct effects on cholesterol and blood sugar levels aren’t covered by many studies and seem unaffected, taking CBD for diabetes can improve the quality of life of someone suffering from diabetes by miles.

The burst of energy CBD gives to users with diabetes is great when you tend to feel tired and exhausted on daily basis. And neuropathic pain, which is almost inseparable from some forms of diabetes, can be reduced enough, to make a person physically active again.

The properties of CBD can also be helpful during various inflammations that tend to happen while suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. CBD lessens them and leads to a decrease in nerve damage and has an effect on lowering the insulin resistance.
